About us

We are members of the A.B.A.A. (Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America and I.L.A.B. (International League of Antiquarian Booksellers). Our business centers on rare books and manuscripts, but also includes general scholarly books, as well as works on paper (maps, engravings, photographs, etc.). In addition to selling used and rare books, we occasionally publish a new book under our own imprint, Sanctuary Books LLC. Our debut title was Matt Weber's photographic collection, The Urban Prisoner (2004). Our second book: A Vegetable Collection. Recipes and Rhymes to Conquer Kids of All Ages, by Dorothy Linder, was published in 2008. Most recently, we unveiled: Strange and Wonderful. An Informal Visual History of Manuscript Books and Albums. Introduction by Jed Perl. We are particularly interested in acquiring and promoting exceptional handwritten books of all kinds. We exhibit highlights from our stock at numerous book fairs throughout the year, including The New York Antiquarian Book Fair in April, The Boston Antiquarian Book Fair in November, and The California Antiquarian Book Fair in February. A good portion of this stock can be viewed through our listings on abebooks.com. In recent years we have issued specialty catalogues on Ernest Hemingway, William Faulkner and Henry Miller. Occasionally, we assemble curious items for auction on eBay. Want lists from our clients are encouraged, and we are eager to assist institutions in addressing their specific needs. We are pleased to consider individual items you may have for sale, and also assist in the handling of large collections and estates, as well as offering appraisal services. We suggest you give us a call or e-mail us with any questions you may have. A portion of our inventory can be viewed at our office on Madison Avenue. We are available by appointment only, but try to keep reasonable business hours more often than not.
